Job Title: Environmental Audits and Monitoring Officer
Job Summary:
The Environmental Audits and Monitoring Officer will conduct environmental audits of all activities that are likely to have a significant effect on the environment developing and implementing environmental audits and guidelines.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• The applicant should hold a Masters degree in Physical Science with specific training in Analytical Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering;
• Experience of at least five (5) years;
• Knowledge of Environmental science and technology; Environmental auditing and inspection;
• Knowledge on guidelines and regulation of auditing;
• Good understanding of technical and environmental aspects of facility operations;
• Relevant requirements on environmental laws, regulations and related documents;
• Environmental management systems and standards;
• Know- How of Audit procedures, processes and techniques and Industrial processes.
• Proven knowledge and understanding of appropriate environmental auditing concepts, processes, systems and the role of environmental monitoring;
• Ability to identify environmental pollution sources and compile relevant and appropriate information when needed;
• Skills in forming partnerships and alliances with other individual and organizations to enhance performance on the job;
• Able to produce reports , document actions , keep records and inform appropriate parties;
• Capacity to facilitate resolution of conflict within regulated parties;
• Competency in clearly expressing concepts or ideas orally and in writing;
• Excellent interpersonal skills conclusive in the effective and efficient performance of the audit such as diplomacy and the ability to listen;
• The ability to reach sound judgment based on objective evidence;
• Able to work under minimum supervision and meet set targets and deadlines;
• Skills of personal organization necessary in the effective and efficient performance of the audit;
• Ability to understand and appropriately use information about economic and political implications of decisions and;
• Good computer skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct post EIA Inspections and audits to ensure implementation of mitigation measures;
• Check corporate compliance with environmental legislation and checking the accuracy of environmental impact predications;
• Verify compliance with environment regulations such as emission limits effluent standards, waste management practices and EIA Regulations;
• Advise on criteria approaches , procedures and techniques in developing environmental standards;
• Initiate the development of environmental standards in priority areas of concern including coordination with lead agencies and Institutions in development of environmental standards;
• Develop environmental audit protocols guidelines and regulations in consultation with Legal Section;
• Maintain a data base on audit practitioners and audits done;
• Review audits and EIA reports;
• Ensure restoration and compensation of damages or liabilities caused;
• Design programs and create awareness on environmental standards;
• Develop and coordinate training in environmental standards in sectoral institutions, private sector, district and lower levels;
• Provide compliance assistance to the regulated communities where required;
• . Maintain and check performance on environmental monitoring equipment and;
• Any other relevant tasks that may be assigned.
